Community at the Heart of Thanksgiving
| November 25, 2024 |
Fresh & Local:Community at the Heart of ThanksgivingThanksgiving is a time for gratitude and reflection but also carries a history of pain for Indigenous peoples. For us, it’s about honoring community—expressing gratitude for our connections and turning it into action by uplifting one another. As we gather, we also recognize Native American Heritage Month, celebrating the resilience, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous communities. This season, let’s embrace the spirit of community care and work toward a future of equity and respect. Market Umbrella is committed to increasing food access across the city, and you can help this Thanksgiving. Consider supporting a local community fridge—prepare a little extra of your dish, package it up, and share it with neighbors in need. Together, we can nourish our community. Lastly, join us at the Tuesday Uptown Market tomorrow for last-minute groceries! Extra vendors will be on hand with leafy greens, citrus, breads, meat, dairy, and seafood. This is the last market before Thanksgiving, and the last one before FMNP benefits expire after November 30th (FMNP match tokens are valid year-round). |
